This paper will address the various situations facing Global Communications in its effort to survive bankruptcy or hostile takeover. Global Communications is a telecommunications company who has been in business for over 25 years. Within this time period Global became an industry leader in the communications business. After an aggressive 15 years the company now, within the last 3 years is rapidly losing ground and is unable to withstand the economic pressures facing the company. The executive leadership must identify new strategies to implement in order for the company to survive. Meanwhile confronting the ethical dilemmas faced by stakeholders and employees regarding the companies end state vision. A gap analysis will examine the companies current situation, issues, opportunities, ethical dilemma and end state vision.
Situation Analysis
Issue and Opportunity Identification
Global Communications has a number of issues facing the company. The most visible to Wall Street and its stockholders has been the almost 65% drop in the companies stock price. The Board of Directors has given an ultimatum to the executive staff to gain ground in the stock price and instill confidence in the company to the employees and stockholders. The second is with the increasing competition in the telecom market with dilution of services at reduce costs by competing companies Global must gain ground in order to increase its stock price. The third issues is competition of local, long-distance and international markets all competing in the same telecom for customer services and products, has lead Global to outsource some of its call centers to India and Ireland. The fourth and the most volatile is the lost of jobs to Globals loyal staff. In the latest rounds of union negations involving the employees and the company a recent decision to dramatically cut education and health benefits by over 20% to over 1500 employees was negotiated.
