We’ve read through several texts to see what they had in common when it came to their definition of a good person. What I’ve found is that the texts all have one thing in common, to be a good person, it means you’re faithful to God and and faithful to those around you and that good will come if you live your life by god.
In the text proverbs (22:17-21) faithfulness comes from having trust in god. That god planned our life out for a reason or has a certain duty for us in our life. What I got was that one should live a life full of love and faith, but also faith in god and should live their life depending on god. We have to trust god in order to find our purpose in life, and if one does his “duty”, he shall know that it was the work of god. It also says that we should carry the word of God with us and spread Faith in him to our peers. In proverbs (23:10), it says that if someone who is faithful to god will be protected and have his fight be taken into the hands of god if he is defrauded, and then the defrauder with be trying to defraud god himself. In (23:17-18) it says that if we follow the path of fairness, we will reach the end, the end being heaven, if you stay on the path that takes you to god. In proverbs (24:5-6), it states that being wise leads to godliness, and basically the wise follow god and his teachings. In (24:9), it states that one who doesn’t follow or turns away from god is an abomination to the righteous.
In the 6th Confucian Ode, in the deeper meaning of the text, the husband has faith in his peach tree. “O omen peach, that art so frail and young, giving us promise of such solid fruit, going to man and house to be true root.”, in this quote, it sounds as if the husband doubts his peach tree to some extent because of its weakness and how young it is , but has faith that it will prevail and become the material to build his house and stay in its path towards it duty, to be “true to root”.
