The theory of Howard Gardner believes that multiple intelligences is an “ability” or a set of abilities that help solve problems, form products in a particular cultural setting (Kowalski & Westen, 2009). Gardner believed that there are eight kinds of intelligences, each one contributing to the personality and abilities to help in solving cultural significant products or solving problems in general. According to Gardners theory there is no standard intelligence that each person relies on for the ability to problem solve, although these abilities do allow a person to function. The views of Gardner states that intelligences have to deal with more then just linguistic and logical abilities, but call for more different types of intelligence that are needed fore a more practical purpose in problem solving. (Kowalski & Westen, 2009). The eight intelligence that Gardner believes help contribute to problem solving help us to understand which ways humans are intelligent opposed to the ideal of the more traditional viewpoint of how intelligent humans are. (Kowalski & Westen, 2009). There are eight theories of multiple intelligences that range from: musical, which is usually sensitivity to melody and pitch. Bodily/Kinesthetic, which is the ability to control over all body movements, which distinguishes great dancers and athletes. Spatial which is the use of mental maps and the ability to look at the world more accurately in order to transform certain aspects of the world. Linguistic which is the ability to understand words and meanings and then vocalize them. Logical/Mathematical allows for problem solving to be done in the mind or without much thinking, the ability to see patterns and order. Naturalist is the ability to have a heightened sense of ones environment. Intrapersonal is to have the ability of self-

understanding, and interpersonal is the ability to have social skills. (Kowalski & Westen, 2009). Out of these eight intelligences there are three that have impacted my personal success, these are logical-mathematical, intrapersonal, interpersonal.
Logical-Mathematical intelligence has given me the ability to think more logically with the ability for reasoning. Since I was a child I think things through before making a rash decision, I do not like to be rushed or pressured. Problem solving comes very easy to me; I make out a list of steps to see me through the issue until I see a possible outcome. I am very good at solving mysteries and investigating issues as they arise. This intelligence has impacted my personal life on many levels. The job I have had for 3 years when pertaining to logical-mathematical has established me as being organized, the ability to multi-task and solve customer service issues. I am able to organize by classification, I tend to always look for a reasonable explanation, I am very detailed with my work, and looking for areas of improvement. Since having this job I have received four raises in the past three years while being employed at my company, I believe this is due to the fact that I have logical-mathematical intelligence, which is one of my keys of multiple intelligence.
Intrapersonal intelligence I would have to say describes me very well. With this intelligence I believe this is why I am going for a psychology major instead of a business major. Intrapersonal intelligence has been a big impact on my professional life and my academic life due to the fact that I am
