Our Town Essay
The tragedy of life is not that it ends so soon, but that we wait so long to begin it. Thornton Wilder stated this beautifully in the quote, “The morning star always gets wonderful bright the minute before it has to go.” The morning star doesnt really get any brighter, the only thing that makes it seem wonderful bright is that all the other stars in the sky have faded away, and its the one thing left. Now lets just take a second to analysis what thats saying. I believe that that quote is saying that once everything else is gone, and your chance to do something is past, you finally realize what you were missing out on. Just like the morning star, the moments youre missing have always been there, its just sometimes is too late before you fully recognize that they were even there at all.
This past year I was really close friends with one of the most popular girls in school. Sure she was a senior and I was only a sophomore, but we had a friendship that was probably one of the closest friendships I ever had. I was having personal problems, and she was always there for me. She was constantly telling me things like, “you shouldnt put up with her stuff, and I know quite a few girls who would treat you so much better.” Little did I realize that she was talking about herself. There I was a young, high school loser, practically being told by one of the hottest girls in school that she would go out with me, and I didnt recognize it. Then one day I did exactly what she kept telling me not to do, and I started to go back to the other girl, that was just toying with me. Finally a friend made me realize that I missed my chance. I missed out on getting to be with the girl that I thought at the time was the coolest, and when I tried to make things work then it was already to late, she moved on to someone else.
