College Essay
We all face challenges in our everyday life, some are more impacting than another’s but it’s up to us to choose if we learn from them or let them slide. Personally, I’ve been through a lot of hard times in my life and they have built me into the person I am today. My life hasn’t been easy, it was full of obstacles that sometimes put me down but I always managed to be myself back up with the help of my family.
When I was nine years old my dad decided to come to the United States to work to be able to support my pregnant mom, three-year-old brother and me. The economy was very harsh in Ecuador so my mom was forced to quit school and started working while pregnant. While my mom worked I had to take care of my little brother, I cooked, cleaned the house, wash dishes, and somehow be able to do my homework, which I had a lot of at the time. My other brother was born and now my parents had, even more, responsibilities and so did I, I had to take care of 2 little kids when I was a kid my self.
My childhood was very affected because of this, while all my friends were outside playing I had to stay home and be a mother to my little brothers.However I never let my situation at home affect my schoolwork, I managed to have excellent great no matter what was going on at home. This also affected me mentally because I was a kid still and I had too many responsibilities in my hands and my little brothers and mom depended on me.
Now that I am 16 years old, I realize that that event in my life helped me to become the person I am today. I’m a very independent and mature person because of all the challenges that I faced a such a young age. I learned the meaning of hard work by watching my parents struggle every day to bring food to the table for my brothers and I. As a result of my parent’s hard work and dedication my two brothers, mom and I came to the United States of America to look forward to a better life.
