The Environmental SolutionJoin now to read essay The Environmental SolutionThe Environmental SolutionThroughout history, mankind has had differing ideas on how to treat the environment. This differing opinion can be seen both within a single culture and time period, and between different cultures and time periods. In today’s society, this idea is more prevalent than ever, we see battles over where to dump wastes, how to reduce their production, and also how and if to reuse them. This recent interest in the environment at large has also spawned various national organizations and committees whose purpose is to influence the way people act and think about the apparent problem. Though no one seems to have a perfect solution to the environmental problems facing the world today, it seems that there must be something to be done about this growing issue.
Consequently, when it comes to the future, why not use the existing solutions to solve the challenges and challenge our world will face?
The solution that has been identified as the single best solution to the environmental problem today is:
• Clean technology;
• Sustainable growth;
• Eco-regulatory solutions.
This could be achieved through the existing model of sustainable agriculture; the traditional method of producing food which is usually referred to as “wildlife farming” based on the animal forage as an ideal animal. Although these methods don’t necessarily have the potential of reducing the number of animals that will die each year, they would also greatly reduce the number of animals being killed by other livestock for animal feed, or by the livestock and non-animal food animals on the public market. Therefore, many scientists and advocates are beginning the process of developing alternatives to the traditional dairy method of farming.
I see this as the solution because, while an efficient means to address environmental problems, it is not simply going to replace animals. It also goes against the traditional views that animals are in general beneficial to the planet as a whole, and, indeed, the entire human family. The solution here is to use the environment as opposed to animals. This also works against the principle of evolution which has repeatedly held that it is not always possible for an all-powerful being to have the capacity to solve the problem of all of life. Additionally, the answer lies in humans’ ability to interact with the environment, especially around new technologies and new human culture.
According to the scientific community, we should be more aware of the impact of technological change on animals when we do not just focus on making it easy as possible and to live our lives as we prefer. People use every tool of their power to protect their health and food security but if we don’t do something about it, their existence could be in danger. Therefore, as the concept of “technology” has evolved, it is important to understand whether “technology” is actually doing what we want it to and whether or not our efforts should instead be focusing exclusively on getting more people to eat less.
In order to address the current problems faced by our world today, the solution is to take a step back to see the potential of technology as a tool for improvement of our human lives instead of just keeping our society’s current problems down.
The solution to the environmental problems facing the world today, should include:
• Clean tech, better data sharing at every level, enhanced security, greater food safety, more renewable power, greater access to information resources, and greater access to education and training.
Technologies can also bring about more benefits because of their inherent value. Furthermore, as with modern technologies, the advantages we can derive from them are very real.
Technologies are very different from plants as they tend to grow according to conditions of climate. Technological advances over the last 100 years have made the environment more efficient and healthier for everyone and increased the amount of natural resources available and thus increasing demand for new and improved technologies such as solar panels versus fossil fuels.
Although there is no clear “best” way to get into the atmosphere, we should all come together and use the environment as an opportunity to create sustainable ways of living, improving our lives, protecting our planet, enhancing the health of our people, reducing the number of diseases
Over the course of history different cultures have had differing opinions with regard to the way the environment should be treated and used. An example of a culture that deeply values the environment and all of nature is the Native Americans. This society has a rich culture and religious background that includes the worship of the spirits and gods of nature, seasons, weather, and animals. They believe that these spirits and gods watch over them and bring them good fortune in the form of plentiful harvests and good weather, and thus treat the earth, including all animals, plants, and other aspects of nature, with due respect and consideration at all times. Chief Seattle tells of this relationship in his statement, “The air is precious to the red man… What is man without the beasts… Whatever befalls the earth befalls the sons of the earth”(602). He writes this in a letter to President Franklin Pierce in regards to his views of the “white man’s” treatment of the land and environment. The early Americans he speaks of in his letter had a differing opinion of the environment all together. Until recently Americans have used the land and all of its resources until they are use up and just moved on to the next parcel. It was their practice to hunt animals to near extinction, clear-cut whole forests, and pollute waterways without any consideration of what the effects might turn out to be.
In the society of today Americans as a whole are more conscientious of the environment around them. People in all walks of life now are educated on the impacts of our lives on the environment as a whole and what can be done about different aspects of the problem. This ranges from outspoken politicians who push their opinions and possible solutions into view all the way down to the general public who participate in local recycling programs. Past Vice-President, Al Gore, was one such politician and his views are plainly stated when he says, “we are now running out of ways to dispose of our waste in a manner that keeps it out of either sight or mind… we are now disconcerted-even offended- when the huge quantities of waste we thought we had thrown away suddenly demand our attention”(603). Authors Rathje and Murphy also make their opinions known in their article, “a recycling program… can save natural resources, can help reduce pollution, and can divert solid-waste from landfills”(620-21).
The Environmental Law Center provides information as it relates to the use of landfills, how to treat waste, and what state ordinances are used to enforce them and in response.
Rathje describes how the Federal Land Service used regulations to establish landfills.
“As a result of these new regulations, California became the first state to implement its own land management regulations. Landfills serve a dual purpose, an emergency area with land-use management services, and a place in which residents can be provided free access to essential public items, both from home and off the street, and which residents can also use for a variety of other purposes. This is a useful way to respond to a situation where there is little or no access to basic tools and services such as tools, water and electricity, water hygienics, and utilities as that community needs them and will need them.
This is also a valuable use case for people to be able to use their land-use permits for other uses, including the construction of a park or a river. For this purpose in a community, land has the potential to provide housing and other means of living. However, this would not be the case for those residents who are often off the streets searching for a way to purchase goods where they could avoid having to pay for them. In this instance, California was the first to regulate the purpose. The Government Accountability Office (GAO) study concluded that California would have used its new regulation to create land-use permits that would ensure homeowners were paid for their land use when using them for recreation or for use around public transit, and also for other purposes not covered by the new regulations.
The San Francisco Times reported on the situation at the request of local community residents, and of those who objected to the water-use regulation․
“On the morning I heard about the water-use ordinance, my first thought was, ‘What’s going on here?'” replied one person who didn’t understand what the meaning of water-use permitted was. “I immediately thought of people who were living in low-income areas who had no use of water by the end of September and who were not using the water anymore. This seemed to be a great way for them to end up homeless. I didn’t understand how to talk to them and what went on. I did understand what they were saying but had no idea what they were doing. They didn’t know what went on. I thought, What happens if they’re breaking the rules and can’t get the water at all? I told them, Don’t do it. You’re risking your lives, your own, your own house and the very life of these people. Then I realized [a man] had been injured in a swimming accident, my sister had been shot at in a drunk car accident, my brother shot at the house where I live. This really does not look good. It makes me wonder what they were supposed to do. Then I told them that when I call the town meeting to find out how I want to raise money for my own family, some water-users are already using their property because they’re worried that this new regulation might interfere with their activities. So I asked them, ‘Are you going to tell them to put up with this or will you just take it away?’ People in the community were quite upset and they said, I need to speak to the community here.”
In addition to the state of California’s Land Service requirements, there are many other requirements and procedures that have to be met to be able to use an unused land by the end of September as needed for use by other uses. These include any water-quality management measures required by land-use ordinance and the requirement of community members to maintain proper records of the use, including what water is
