Source comparison
I found four sources to look at when starting my comparisons I started with the criteria of using one peer reviewed journal, one trusted website, one not so trusted website, and a couple college level text books. The following is what I found on the topic of mitochondrial disease and mitochondrial diseases. It is easy to see how using different sources could affect the outcome of a paper when looking for specific information.
The first source I looked at mitochondrial diseases was Wikipedia a well know not so trusted website.

This source was very helpful in gaining a basic understanding of mitochondrial disease I would not rely on just this information because Wikipedia is known for not always having reliable information. I found that when you look up mitochondrial diseases on Wikipedia it gives a basic definition and goes on to explain things in more detail. Wikipedia states "Mitochondrial diseases are a group of disorders caused by dysfunctional mitochondria the organelles that are the "power house"." This article goes on explain the mitochondria and how they are found in every cell of the body except red blood cells. It also discusses how mitochondria convert the energy food molecules into ATP which makes most cells function. The different causes of mitochondrial diseases are caused from genetic problems well others are a mutation to the mitochondrial DNA. Mitochondria diseases are unique in there characteristics because they are often passed on. Mitochondrial diseases are interesting in the fact that mitochondria are so vital to the function of a cell. Research is showing the mitochondrial disease may be linked to bipolar and autism.
The second source I used to look at mitochondrial disease was several college lever biology text books including our current text and several from the college library.
Biology text book
I found that college biology text books dont give the detailed information needed to understand mitochondrial diseases in depth I would not use any college level biology text as a source of information on mitochondrial diseases. Our current biology text doesnt go into any detail about mitochondrial diseases. It does mention about the mitochondria and its function in cells.
The third source I used to look at mitochondrial disease was the united muscular dystrophy foundations website.
