Growing up, my family was known for being as environmentally friendly as possible. One of my jobs at home was to make sure to bring out anything recyclable and sort the recyclables into their proper place. We found so much to be recyclable, if you were to drive down our street before the day when recycling was collected, you would guess there were 7-8 people living in our 4 person home. When I moved into my dorm room in Isla Vista, I decided to continue the tradition. It was tough at first to get my other roommates involved, but when I told them we can turn in our cans and bottles for refunds they began to follow my plan, because we definitely go through a lot of aluminum cans. I set up a large bin in our common room so it would be real easy to just toss a can in. I also tried to set up a paper recycling bin, but this one has been a tough operation because it can be easily mistaken for a trash bin. We have been making trips with our recyclable cans and bottles to a self serve recycling station when our closet can no longer hold any more bags. We actually make an average total of over thirty dollars each trip to the recycling center. Although there is an economic incentive, I like that it is a way to be friendly to our environment and it really doesnt take too much effort. My roommates and I still continue our recycling and I will continue to do so once I move into my own house as well
