There are many factors to research when in a retailers decision to establish presence in a foreign country. The article, “Factors that impact United States Retailers Expansion into the International Marketplace” outlined many factors which hold a great amount of importance. Out of the suggested factors, several factors stood out as holding slightly more importance than the others.
The first factor that stood out to me as was the political and economic stability of the country. An in depth study of the countrys political situation and economic growth is necessary when deciding to expand into that country. Political and economic unrest can affect business operations in many ways. The country needs to be sufficiently developed enough to support the product. Trade restrictions, tariffs, and trade agreement should also be thoroughly understood. The limits of government involvement in business should be carefully understood and considered as it can directly affect the business financially, as well as its operations.

The current size of the market share, as well as its strength and structure should be carefully considered. It is important to research companies that sell similar products, and how successful they have become. It is crucial to distinguish the differences between the products offered by the company and the competition. The location, strategy, and saturation of the competition should also be carefully researched.

These factors are pretty basic and would outline the opportunities and capability of a companys success. There are small differences, however, that would slightly impact the importance of these factors. If the product is a reliant on technology, such as a computer, the factor of technical capabilities of the country would be of high importance.
These factors would be prevalent in countries where the economy is sufficiently developed enough to support the product. For example, these factors should be considered when conducting business in Sweden. Business in Sweden is constantly evolving, and becoming
