Introduction:
The Treadway Tire Company was one of the major tire manufacturers and suppliers in North America. The company employed almost 9,000 hourly and salaried staff in North America (Skinner & Beckham, 2008).
Background:
Ashley Wall, a human resources professional, was transferred from Treadway Tire Company’s Greenville, South Carolina, Tire Plant to Lima, Ohio, Tire Plant to fix the high turnover of foremen. The turnover rate of foremen was higher at Lima than at other plants in the division (Skinner & Beckham, 2008).
Problem:
The main problem that the Treadway Tire plant at Lima is facing is the high turnover of the foremen. This is caused by several causes such as low foreman morale, lack of proper formal training and poor prospects for foremen (Skinner & Beckham, 2008).
Opportunities:
Focus needs to be made on boosting the low foreman morale, providing a strong formal training to the foremen and improving the room for career growth for the foremen.
Recommendations:
The management at Treadway Tire plant at Lima needs to work on facilitating the communication between the foremen and line workers. Expectations, especially, need to be communicated to all the workers so that the line workers understand the pressure on meeting the expectations and the foremen don’t feel solely responsible for delivering the expectations. This will also help reduce the pressure on the foremen and work relationship between the two parties will improve as a result.
Conclusion:
Foremen turnover can be significantly reduced by upper management’s aid in open communication between the foremen the line workers. Social get-togethers is a start but more facilitation of communication, such as communicating expectations, need to be delivered by the management.
