A Worldview a Person’s Through Religion or Spirituality
A worldview is a person’s perspective on the world specifically through religion or spirituality. It shapes how they conduct their lives, how they treat others, and how they view themselves. Sire explains a worldview as “a commitment, a fundamental orientation of the heart, that can be expressed as a story in a set of presuppositions (assumptions which may be true, partially true, or entirely false) which we hold (consciously or unconsciously, consistently or inconsistently) about the basic constitution of reality, and that provides the foundation on which we live and move and have our being.” A worldview gives a foundation for a person to stand on. It answers tough life questions for example: “what is prime reality –the really real?”, “what is the nature of the external reality, that is, the world around me?”, “what is a human being?”, “what happens to a person at death?”, and “why is it possible to know anything at all?”, “how do we know what is right and what is wrong?”, and “what is the meaning of human history?”
There are several different worldviews and each offers its own lens on what the world looks like. Worldviews include: Christian Theism, Deism, Naturalism, Nihilism, Existentialism, Eastern Pantheistic Monism, The New Age, and Postmodernism, just to name a few. Each worldview has roots from the view before it, but as individuals learn and uncover information about the world new views are shaped and twisted.
Christian Theism is the view that majority of what is considered to be the Western world are grounded in. Although many religions with different doctrines fall under the category of Christian Theism, the essentials are the same. Those core beliefs are that there is on triune personal God that exist and is known through the Bible; He once revealed Himself to us and could be known; the universe and all that is in it His creation with humans as His special creation.
Christian Theism also teaches that God is all powerful, all knowing, and all around. God is infinite which means He has no beginning and He has no end. He is personal, so He knows all the details of His creations. He is gentle, loving, patient, kind. However, He is also jealous and does get angry. The biggest lesson that Christian Theism teaches about God is that He is triune. That means that He is three persons in one being. While all separate entities, the Trinity is still one being. God created the cosmos out of nothing to function in a manner that structured “with a uniformity of cause and effect in an open system” Christian Theism also teaches that God made all of creation in His image.
It also teaches that God is sovereign and that He rules over all. However, that possess the questions about how humans are to exist in a world where an invisible God rules and orchestrates their life. Many have debated over the idea of predestination over free will. Predestination says that a person’s life
