what causes montag to realize he isnt happy is when Clarrise asks him if he is really happy! it ignites something in him that causes him to really think and question him self for the first time in his life! He is unable to hide how much he questioned himself and how he is forever changed by the fact that all that had to happen was for him to be asked one simple question! he realizes that nothing is funny when its him and he tries to tell people this but that just keep rejecting him! his eyes have been opened to the truth and he realizes that he has every right to a beautiful life and he sees that being a fireman is only hurting those around him and destorying the economy and people are loosing knowledge and everybody is so self absobed and that is wrong and that he is never going to get anywhere if he continues to live like this!
