Before going in to, or conducting any kind of meeting one should find out the type of audience he is presenting information to. Once the individual figures this information out, he can now look at the characteristics of the audience and get a better understanding on how to present his information so its effective and well understood across the board. A good reason to understand the characteristics of an audience allows the presenter to use the appropriate language; also, it allows the presenter to have knowledge of particular work terms or slang that he may or may not use, also the presenter will know with what level of formality that he should use in the presentation.
After learning some basic research tips to conduct before presenting to an audience, being told to present quarterly sales information at an in-person meeting to a group of stakeholders, including managers, salespeople, and customers, I would first like to find out the characteristics of my audience and what I would have to consider. With such a wide scale of importance at this meeting I will have to look carefully at my audience and make sure I find a god middle ground to present my information so that everyone can get the same use and information out of my presentation.
Having such a broad audience to present to is going to create some challenges for my presentation for example, if Im presenting sales information for the quarter and now knowing my audience I will need to make sure that I have all sales information from top to bottom because its not just a customer asking or even a sales clerk there are stake holders and managers that need more pertinent information than the average customer or sales clerk. Along with including more detailed sales information I will have to make sure not to use too many acronyms that I might use if it was just upper management, at the same time I cannot dumb it down because I do not want to insult the management or lower level personnel. Knowing some basic characteristics of my audience will not only help them to understand the information Im presenting but it will help me present that information more effectively so that my audience will get the most out of there and my time.
Another way to effectively deliver my message to my audience is to pick the correct avenues of communication. Choosing the correct method and means of communicate can make all the difference in the world. If you chose the wrong communication channel then you can turn off your audience or not effectively deliver your message and cause confusion rather than knowledge. I feel for this particular instance (presenting sales information to I diverse audience) that
