She has been in college recruitment for the last seven years and prior to that she has held multiple positions in marketing and business operations. Upon sitting down, getting comfortable and giving her some information about myself, the first words from her were “before you sell anything you have to sell yourself.” She discussed with me the content of my social media pages as well as staying current with news events and having opinions on things that matter to me.
She was very clear that your personal brand is the biggest part of your selling reputation, she said that people will buy things often times because they trust you and in turn, trust what you are in support of. When we have celebrities that we like and trust and they get behind major products; we are more inclined to buy those products. We conversed back and forth about how true that was we exchanged examples of products we have bought only because of the people who back the brands.I revealed to her that I had googled her and didn’t see any public social media other than her LinkedIn page. She laughed and said social media is a blessing and a curse. She said over the years, she has seen people lose their jobs by venting about frustrating events at work. Social media is a major driver of a lot of google searches so it is important that the content of my pages match the image that I want to give to the world. People can look at the pages you follow to see the interests that you have and what you fill your spare time with. It is important to keep everything professional, while you may think something is private often times there is a way for someone to find it.
