Uber Marketing
1. In the given article the main argument that arises against UBER is the traffic issue in Manila. In other words because of the very heavy traffic in Manila, the main advantage of getting a car at the right time for a passenger is lost. The reason is the car ordered through UBER facility will not be able to by-pass traffic and reach the point of request. The main purpose of the concept of UBER is for the community, the car owners, to serve the community who need a car for a specific purpose. This arrangement will serve the purpose of providing transport while not increasing the vehicle population. In Manila, the new cars have come to the market and operated with drivers. This has not only disturbed the concept but also contributed to increasing, although marginally at present, the number of cars on the road. The route cause of this problem could be considered as the increased car ownership and usage. Moreover, legal clearance and licensing have also become an issue. The licensing means taxes and that cuts into the margin of UBER, and the car owner. The government may also be under pressure from the taxi companies to put additional tax to UBER service provider. This will kill the service, which will have several potential benefits to the community. UBER being a remote one will not have a window to negotiate with the government to rationalize the rate of tax on the license or to simplify the process of registration with the mobile-transport service. Furthermore the insurance policy of UBER services are also seems to be an issue. In fact UBER does not operate with its own company cars, unlike other taxi industries UBER hires employees who owns their own car, which has insurance that only covers personal coverage. Unlike other taxi drivers UBER drivers do not carry insurance that covers commercial use.
2. According to the author he argues that UBER makes traffic worse. However, in spite of these challenges still UBER manages to retain customers and no matter how long it will take to reach the passenger, UBER trips never gets canceled. Therefore I disagree with the authors’ argument of UBER being an awkward fit. In other words if there wasn’t UBER services people would use other taxi services anyway, so why not replace other taxi services with a convenient, safety and cheaper option. Since UBER has being receiving positive customer feedback it seems like all UBER users are happy with the services they provide. In a modern society where everyone is familiar with smart phones and mobile apps I would say UBER is a good fit to turn everyone’s day to day to activities easier. In fact it is even convenient to get a taxi anytime during the day. Suppose a person need to go some where at late night he or she can get there by requesting UBER via mobile in no time. Customers get to watch the minute by minute progress of UBER drivers via there mobile app, this is very helpful especially if someone needs to get somewhere in a rush or in a bad weather, as no one will have to be tired of waiting for a taxi. Furthermore even for drivers unlike other taxi services they do not have to wait on the side of the roads seeking for passengers, its just a meter of getting to the requested location on time by connecting with passengers all over the city via their mobile phones.  They can get in touch with customers online via the mobile app hence its not only convenient to passengers but also convenient to UBER employees.
