The United States should stay part of the United Nations. President Franklin D. Roosevelt started the United Nations after WWII. The United States has been a member of the United Nations since it started. This allowing us to be part of the Big Five, The Big Five is the five major powers that are the permanent members of the Security Council. The Big Five members are Great Britain, France, China, Russia, US. The US has been paying its dues every since. As of today there are 191 members of the United Nations.
It is an advantage for the United States to stay in the United Nations, because the U.S is one of the Big Five on the Security Council. The United Nations cannot do anything that the Big Five disagree with. This is an advantage because nothing can be done without the entire Big Five agreeing to it. The United Nations has had some success in stopping wars in Asia and Africa and spreading peace in many places. The United Nations also helps a lot of needy and poor countries around the world. The US should play global cop, and cannot do this alone.
If the United States got out of the United Nations than we would not be part of the Big Five and not have a say in what they do. Therefore, they could do things that we do not agree with. The United Nations does so many good things that we will not be part in as a country any longer. If we did not belong to the United Nations we would not have allies, or back up support from other countries.
So, in conclusion the U.S should stay in the United Nations. The positives far out weigh the negatives. The United Nations is a major peacekeeper in the world. Causing many nations to unite and help one another. The United States needs to help in achieving unity, as it could not be done alone.
