The United States Army requires that all personnel and soldiers be accountable for themselves, their equipment and at times their fellow soldiers. The level of accountability that you have generally increases with rank, responsibility and/or authority. While they are related, both responsibility and accountability differ from authority in the respect that authority can be delegated, while both accountability and responsibility are universal and cannot be.

I will never leave a fallen comrade. One of the United States militarys biggest concerns is to never leave a man behind, dead or alive. It is perhaps this knowledge that they will never be left which keeps many troops confident in their job. How hard would you fight if you knew that your life was expendable and should you go missing, you would be written off and forgotten?
Within such organizations, decision making is typically top-down in character. There is an interactiverelationship between strong levels of organizational commitment and reliability in “being on time”. It hasbeen found that strong commitment is associated with low levels of absenteeism, tardiness, and voluntary turnover.
