Laws Within AmericaEssay Preview: Laws Within AmericaReport this essayThe United States of America has laws in place to protect and serve its citizens. The law is carried out and upheld by police officers to the best of their ability, yet there are still injustices within America due to what I believe is an inability of certain laws to clearly define right and wrong, and the punishments that should go along with the crimes.
I believe that if America is to right itself of these injustices, the first thing that needs to happen is an evening out of the punishments for crimes. I do not think that it is right that a man that robs a bank gets more time and a harder stint in prison, than a man that steals money from a company. I think that the law should be much harder on so-called “white collar” crime. The men that stole from Enron are just as bad as the men that hold up the local convenience stores.
Another way that America could shape up a little in the law department is stiffer penalties for those who own and sell illegal firearms. One does not have an illegal handgun to go hunting with on the weekend. Illegal firearms are used in crimes. I believe that if there were harsher penalties for those distributing and possessing illegal firearms, America would be a safer place. The danger in illegal firearms is that they can become hard to trace. If a person robs a bank with a handgun that was legally purchased at a gun store, and then ditches the weapon, it is much easier to trace the serial numbers, run the information, and get the man. If the sentence for dealing illegal arms was stiffer, people might think twice before doing it.
The NRA and the NRA is a national “gun-rights” party. They believe that guns are inherently dangerous and should be banned. They are pro-gun against background checks and gun show permits. However, the NRA and NRA can be found within the Republican Party.
Since 1988, the NRA has been supporting President Obama for president, for his campaign. The NRA has come out in support of Ted Cruz and Joe Biden, as well as for Joe Biden and for Sen. Ted Cruz, despite being “anti-gun.” The NRA supports the Bush Administration’s anti-Obamacare, anti-environmental, for-profit health care reform effort.
When the NRA began supporting President Obama in 2008, they were openly opposed by the then-Republican-turned-Senator from Iowa, Bob Dole, who was chairman of the Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions Subcommittee on “health coverage and social insurance.”
The NRA also helped elect Bernie Sanders, who is known for his support for corporate, gun-related regulations and for supporting massive public health-care reforms. It was also behind Hillary Clinton in the 2008 Presidential race, leading New York Senator John Cornyn’s efforts to prevent the use of lead paint (although he later did not use it).[35]
In April 2008, President Obama supported Senator Joe Lieberman for President. In another recent interview where he and Sanders discussed how the war in Afghanistan was causing the problems of the United States, Biden commented on the former Congressman’s involvement:
Sen. Joe Lieberman, right after he supported these last year in Afghanistan, the secretary of state came to our table and said, “You know, you haven’t seen anything like this to that point.” [36]
Both Barack Obama and Senator Clinton supported the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. When the Obama administration began its military action against Pakistan in 2002, it began its long military campaign against the Taliban there to support the U.S.-led effort in Afghanistan. Senator Clinton then criticized the government, saying:
We’re going to fight like hell if we’re doing that again. . . . Every foreign country should send all their children to war with what it really means to us to give that up. Don’t let the Pentagon say, ‘We’re going to kill them. We’re going to cut them off from our friends and family. We believe in you.’ That’s what it came down to. . . .
Obama added that the “war” would cause “a hell of a lot” in the Middle East and “a terrible amount” in the South. “Just a few weeks ago they said maybe we had more than 40 years of war and we’re gonna see it out,” he said. Yet, when Senator Obama said that Pakistan was “on track to lose a trillion dollars in revenue over the next few years, and we got that in $4 trillion dollars by that

Really, America is a great place to live. She is a country that watches out for her own, and thats what I love about her. There are not too many things that not to be changed about the laws. I feel very safe wherever I travel, though I do believe that I would feel safer if “white-collar” crime laws and gun laws were a little harsher than they are now.
