Internship Request
Essay title: Internship Request
I am a senior at the University of Hawaii at Manoa, and as graduation is quickly approaching Im finding myself now more than ever asking, as Im sure most seniors do, “What do I want to do with my degree?” As an Anthropology major, I have always been fascinated in learning about people and exploring different cultures and customs, as well as my own in the African American community. I am also a strong believer in community service and giving back to ones community, and have volunteered my time to many worthy causes. On my hunt for a possible career path, it has become very important to me that I try to incorporate as many of my interests in my job choice as possible. Over the years I have come to really value and appreciate museums, not only for their entertainment value but also as an institution for learning, research, and community outreach. That is why I am interested in learning more about how museums are run, the work that goes into putting exhibits together, and the work that museums do in the community. I believe that a career in the museum may be something that could work for me in the future, and I figure the best way to learn would be from those people who are already experts in their field.
I am open to fill any position/ responsibilities that an internship requires of me. However I do have some experience in event planning, customer service, and education with children K-5 via the Docent program at the Waikiki Aquarium and volunteering at the Long Beach Aquarium. I also have a life-long background in art and took advanced placement art classes during high school and various art classes in college. Another area that I am passionate about and have experience with is conservation and wildlife. I considered studying abroad with UH for field studies this summer
