Upton Sinclair’s Book the Jungle
I would like to start off by saying thank you so much for giving me your entire life’s fortune, so we can help the Progressive Era continue and expand. Following your request that you asked, I have decided to give away the million dollars as you told me. 600,000 to the one that needs it most, 300,000 to the next, and 100, 000 to the last. I was able to pick my top 3 progressive reforms to donate the money to. I distributed the money in a specific way, just like you asked. The $600,000 is going to the Child Labor movement, the $300,000 is going to be sent to the Food Safety movement, and the $100,000 is going to the Eugenics movement.

I have decided to put $600,000 into child labor reforms. Children are working long hours in unsafe working conditions to help support their family from very young ages. More than 1 million kids have been working as young as the age of 5 for 18 to 20 hours a day. Us children should be the ones people need to keep our country going once adults have all perished. Us children are the future. However, people are putting us through such trouble, which will cause many of us kids to die before they turn 30 due to health conditions and diseases caused by working so young. Young boys are working in coal mines breathing in toxic air for hours at a time. If many people are relying on us children to run our country in the future, why are we putting us in such harsh environments and harming us from being able to do that? I believe that this is such an important issue that I believe deserves a lot of attention and change.

After thinking for a bit of time, I decided that the meat packing industry needed some of the money as well. So, I will be donating $300,000 to this movement. In Upton Sinclair’s book “The Jungle”, he claims they store the meat in dark rooms. Who would of known meat could become a threat to society? There were usually leaking water from the roofs, and landed on the meat, which would cause rats to usually run
