Define Plagiarism
Define plagiarism.
Plagiarism is the act of imitating the words or thoughts of another person or author without authorization and presenting the work as your own by not crediting the original author or person responsible for original work.
Explain what types of information you must acknowledge and document in your written assignments.
Acknowledge and document all ideas or references to the text or other sources you use when you use another person’s work to back up the points you are trying to make. This can be done by citing the work that you used and giving reference to where you got it. This helps give credit to the original creator of the work.
Identify the types of information that does not require a source citation.
Any information that comes from your own head does not require source citation which is basically known as common sense.
Explain what you must do when you borrow the exact words of someone else in your paper.
When you borrow the exact words from someone else’s work you need to acknowledge that person by properly citing the words you used and provide a reference as well. This keeps you from committing plagiarism. Use quotation marks when needed also.
Explain what you must do when you paraphrase (put information from outside sources in your own words).
When paraphrasing you still need to give credit and do citations and make sure quotation marks are used to show what is being paraphrased. Provide a page number of the original passage so you can make a proper reference. You must completely alter the sentence structure so that it is entirely in your own words.
