The University of Phoenix distributes a complete collection of learning tools, knowledge and form for students to access in order to help them with completion of the Master of Business Administration program. The University of Phoenix assortment of online resources include the rEsource site; the Learning Team Toolkit, which is the students “gateway to materials that will help achieve greater professional competence as a member and leader or work teams”(Learning Team Toolkit, 2004); and a problem-based learning approach. These tools grant the necessary essentials for students to fulfill their expectations throughout their online course.
The Value of rEsource
The rEsource site provided by the University of Phoenix has many different resources to help students with any challenges they may face throughout their courses. It is used to “expand access to learning resources and enhance collaboration and communication for improved student learning,”(Mission and Purposes, 2001). One of the resources that give value to students is the University Library. It provides students with supplies such as articles, periodicals, specific books, encyclopedias, and journal indexes, making it easy to research any subject and offer accurate information. The online library also includes dedicated databases such as EBSCOhost, ProQuest, EIU Viewswire, and InvestText Plus. Another key resource is the Center for Writing Excellence, which provides immediate feedback on a students entire paper through WritePoint and Tutor Review. The writing center has guidelines and writing tips and assists students in meeting the expectations of proper writing skills. Grammar tutorials are also available for students to ask questions regarding APA formatting, grammar, punctuation, etc. Even samples of APA formatted papers are included as a resource for referencing the APA Publication Manual correctly. In addition, the eBook Collection is a helpful tool that offers students with access to an abundance of eBooks either for their required reading for class or for papers and other assignments. It gives students that ability to search through a single book or an entire collection in order to complete their assignments. The University Library, Center for Writing Excellence and eBook Collection are all very helpful resources within the rEsource site that provide students with all of the necessary information needed to complete their courses. The benefit of these resources is that they are all right at the students fingertips, available at any time. The information is accessible to them without ever having to leave their computer and is available to support learning individually in addition to learning as a team.
The Value of Learning Teams
Developing team effectiveness skills is proved to be useful in many business and educational environments. According to the Universitys institutional research, “employers expect colleges and universities to help develop this competency,” (Learning Team Toolkit, 2001). Therefore, the use of learning teams at the University of Phoenix has become mandated.
