Steel, as they say, is a part of everybodys life. From a small kid whose diapers need to be pinned with the help of a safety pin to use in very complex structures like bridges, steel is omnipresent. The variety of use of steel, which is now acting as a substitute to many other metals emanates from the fact that steel is non-corrosive, carries a high degree of strength to withstand various situations and has great aesthetic value as well. It would not be incorrect to say that one cant imagine a day without steel coming in use multiple times. As one wakes up in the morning, one of the first things to do is to open the door holding the knob, generally made up of steel. Soon after, we are found having breakfast with the help of cutlery, which is almost entirely made up of steel these days. And yes, as we get dressed up, we open our almirah, which again is made up of steel. Steel is an important element in the manufacturing of almost all the vehicles which we use to commute. Even the pen which we use to write has a steel nib in it. But apart from these daily uses, steel has a lot more to offer. Almost none of the homes are built today, without a significant use of steel in it. All the infrastructure which we develop can only be relied upon for supporting huge loads because of the presence of steel in it. To summarize, steel is perhaps one metal with perhaps the most versatile usage; which begs us a question as to why steel is so popular that steel producing industry is perhaps the biggest out of all the metals. And the answer lies in the fact that the properties of the steel make it the most unique; these properties are unfound in other metals and make it irreplaceable for most purposes.
