The definition of a group is two or more individuals working simultaneously on a regular basis to accomplish common goals. Team is defined as groups of individuals who work actively as one to reach a purpose for which they are all held responsible. In order to be converted into a high-performance team, the group requirements to work simultaneously in ways that use their skills well to achieve a function. Establishing different work groups and team concepts can fuse those to be capable to support and complete company objective set forth and will improves team problem-solving and increases productivity. Implementing leadership theories as well as identifying a variety of influences and powers amongst the administration will help bring into line the purpose of Woodys Veneer Factory with the people within it. Woodys Veneer Factory is such a company that can positively produce the various concepts, theories, and sources put forth of its leaders in an effort to improve performance (Spector, 2012).
There are several group and team theories that could be put into achieve in order to improve the behavior as well as the difference of opinion of employees in Woodys Veneer factory. All of the employees at Woodys Veneer Factory are considered a work group. However, it is common for there to be work teams inside of each work especially in factories. Woodys Veneer Factory can easily be divided into work teams. In order for a group to be considered a team, “the actions of individuals must be interdependent and coordinated, each member must have a particular, specified role, and there must be common tasks, goals, and objectives.” (Spector, 2012). It is obvious that the individuals running on the meeting line and the management are working as a separate team. One correction to the issues the factory is having is to improve the whole working groups cohesiveness and shifting the norms for the groups. “Cohesive groups strongly enforce their norms for high or low productivity.” (Spector, 2012). In the case of Woodys Veneer Factory the norms are clearly contributing to low down productivity. The norms that are being imposed of spying, grinding up good product, dishonesty, and physical altercations are intolerable.
