History of Sex
Sex throughout history has always been around. Although sex was always around the beliefs and morals were different between the centuries. The Victorian age and the modern age have many differences in the beliefs and morals of sex. The Victorian age was more conservative about there sexual intercourse while in todays society sex is beginning to be more open and exposed to society.
There are many things that distinguish the Victorian age from the modern era of sex. For one, the Victorian age of sex believed that sex was only allowed when it was to produce a child. It was thought that men were the only ones who could enjoy sex. But thing began to change through the Victorian age that proved that women enjoyed sex as well. Casanova wrote “Pleasure isnt evil; it is actually compatible with religion.” This quote shows change in the Victorian society. Women in the Victorian age wanted some sexual freedom but were damned by society. The women had restricted contact with men during this era making it hard to express their sexual feelings. Women were considered care takers or house wives. This meant that men were the bread winners. By women staying home it limited the number of male figures they could come into contact with. But by the early 18 hundreds women began to get their expressions out. Prostitution was on the rise. Along with prostitution came the notion that Versailles was the capital of sex at the time. But with the rise of prostitution many men and women came into contact with STD known as vaginal disease. STDs in women were hard for doctors to figure out. The reason for this was because doctors werent permitted to examine women in the naked state. The law stated that they had to examine women in the state that they passed away in (clothes still intact). There were two classes of prostitution also. The Brotherworths were upper class prostitutes usually held in saloons or public housing, while the gutter street walkers worked in the streets and usual for the poor. Things, in the Victorian state, began to change when women stood up for themselves. This is what is known as modern day sex. These changes included different clothing styles and women finally coming out saying they enjoy sex also.
The modern day sex era is not tremendously different than the Victorian age. The main difference in modern day era from Victorian era is that sex is more of an open expression in modern day. Used to be in the Victorian times sex was never mentioned in a public setting. On the other hand the modern day era has technology that helps the information of sex get around. The inventions of television, computers, and automobiles were vast improvements of the sex life modern America will now hold. Also the World War one and two contributed greatly to the modern day sex lives. In Victorian times it was unheard of that women would work in the factories. But as the war went on women were forced into the workforce allowing them to gain a lot of freedom and independence from men. With this independence women didnt have to rely solely on men to bring in the money. Also another major
