Does violence in the mass media really effect teens in todays society? Or do people just want to blame someone for their childs wrong doing. Movies, music, and video games are just for entertainment. Just because they might have some violent content doesnt mean someone has to do it. Many people believe that violence in music, movies, and video games will lead to violent behavior in teens.
Music has come a long way since its humble beginnings. With gangsta rap and heavy metal promoting and glorifying violence in there lyrics. Some people believe that people who buy harmful themes are more approving of antisocial behaviors and attitudes. Even though there are many people who listen to gangsta rap and heavy metal who never committed at crime. Yes, there has been a hand full who have committed a crime due to music, doesnt mean everyone else will. May rappers are liars who probably never committed a serious crime themselves, but sex and violence sell so thats why they rap about violence. “overall, the effects of exposure to songs with violent lyrics have produced mixed results”(4).
Violence in the movies isnt a recent thing. Violence in movies can be trace back to the early 1900s. In 1903 Edwin Porters The Great Train Robbery one of the first violent movies. “Violence on television is a reflection of violence in society”(3). As long as there is violent nature in human begins then there is always going to be some type of violence. “Research indicates that some children who consume violent programming are more likely to become aggressive to feel desensitized to violence or experience fear upon viewing” (3).
Video games have come along way since there simply beginnings in 1958 William Higginbotham created the first video games as entertainment for visitors at BNL (Brookhaven National Laboratory). Violence in video games didnt
