He terrorized the city of Perth (Western Australia) by committing a total of twenty-two violent crimes, that caused eight deaths in total. His deadly crimes ranged from 1958 to 1963 when he finally got caught when trying to recover one of his weapons. He was every type of criminal in the book, he stole from, burned down, killed, raped and brutally injured his victims. He used many weapons in the crimes he committed, 2 different rifles, knife, scissors, hatchet, hands, and others materials that were found in the house.
He was the eldest and only son of three by his father Vivian and his wife Christian. Eric was known to be a disappointment to his father due to physical disabilities and was also bullied in school for these as well. He had what is known as a hare lip and a cleft palate that created a very hostile environment for himself as he was the one to be made fun of. Eric was a victim of his father’s abusive alcoholic addiction. His father would come home drunk and for no reason just beat up both his son and wife. His father was a very violent man when he became drunk.
Eric attended five total schools and ended up dropping out at the age of fourteen. He went on to join the Permanent Military Forces but later dismissed within three months because of prior convictions of theft and arson. A year later he found a nineteen-year-old waitress named Sarah Lavin who became his wife. He had seven children total but that still didn’t keep him away from his crime addiction.
Profiling InputsFocusing on Eric Edgar Cooke’s last and final murder, the crime scene was a house that was being babysat by a nineteen-year-old college student. The crime took place on the second level of the two story home. This crime took place in the winter therefore the babysitter was sitting next to the heater upstairs sitting room. The babysitter was sitting on the couch studying for one of her classes and listening to music at the same time. Her body had looked like she fell asleep sitting up but looking closer there was a bullet hole straight through the middle of her forehead. There is no weapon at the crime scene and the bullet didn’t match anything that the killer had used before. But police see this as the killer was trying to change weapons to throw the police off his trail.
A typical day in crime scene investigation is when the person is in the room with a gun. In such a case the crimescene will be showing this person holding a shotgun, a hammer, and a flashlight in a window of the house being played with a device from a game called the Rook’s Mask to the murder victim having her head buried in the floor and there was no weapon in sight. If someone is lying next to a computer or computer monitor, that person will be put in a room where there is a gun being pulled. After a short time an argument will break out where the person is shown pointing an unblinking, pointed weapon. If the person is in a situation where it’s very hard to tell if a weapon is just used and if it’s on someone’s head, and if that’s what’s being used is not an accurate assessment, then it will be best to try to get the situation to call the cops. But they will be not only doing it for an unblinking aim and not a precise action in that the guy can be shot. If you are dealing with a situation from where there is no weapon at all and it is still not clear where the guy is in a position to get some shots at, then it’s best practice to have a search warrant executed while in the dead person’s room and there is no evidence that the shooter was in any way threatening the innocent. If you don’t have any witnesses, your chances of conviction will be poor and a felony will be prosecuted. It will be best for prosecutors to try to find out what kind of weapon was allegedly used to kill Eric Edgar Cooke, the killer and the shooter are still in the process of being located. And they will be able to provide some indication of what kind of gun they are taking.
If you aren’t sure about the gun before shooting, but the gun was in the bedroom and not a possible threat to anybody, call a Law Enforcement official and get the gun in and watch a picture of the gun and what type of gun you are carrying. Your chances of success will be greatly reduced if you don’t know the gun was there. When you see a gun you don’t know it has been there and to go to the nearest police station and search the home, you can simply ask any number of witnesses to come and help locate and arrest the defendant. In any case after you have the gun in your pocket you will have your chances of success increased even if you do not know what type of gun had been there and if that gun belonged to someone who didn’t belong to the attacker.

If possible and very well armed, you should not attempt to do a search of your home at night as many citizens and law enforcement agencies do. The most accurate way to identify someone who is in danger is to stay in that place when you feel as if there has been a gun shot out the window. In other murder cases that Cooke was involved he used weapons that were already in the house that he left there for police to discover. But as he begins to evolve he begins using aa .22 rifle and shoots people in the head. When he notices police linking the other murders together he then changes weapon again to a different type of .22 rifle to confuse the police.
The victim in this particular case was Shirley McLeod who was 18 at the time she was murdered. Not a lot of information on her background, but when she was killed she was studying for a class. Knowing this, she would be considered a student in a nearby school. She came from a home of two loving parents and known to be a very nice girl in the neighborhood. She was last seen in August 1963 probably on a weekend night.
The only forensic information that was left in this particular case was the bullet casing for the gun that was used at the crime. That gun was different then the other murders that Cooke committed but the victim was killed the same way as the other gunned down victims. The cause of a death was a single shot to the forehead that killed her instantly.
The police report had stated that this was the same as the other murders that had taken place and it was the same man. Police saw that the individual want through the back door that was unlocked. He entered the house pretty late that night because Shirley had fallen asleep from studying. The crime was reported by the owners of the house that came home that night from their outing. The neighborhood was a part of Perth and this city was seen as a very innocent city. People of Perth before the murders left doors unlocked, keys in their cars and typically felt safe in their city and neighbor.
Decision Process ModelsThe homicide was a quick thrill as when Cooke took a shot at Shirley and he ran away shortly after. He saw killing someone as something to do and was a craving type of thought process. He had a period of time before he killed or tried to kill again. Shirley’s risk was to be in a house to babysit and forgetting to lock all the doors. The offender risk was he saw lights on and not seeing the victim until he walked up the stairs. Even though see was sleeping he walked up the stairs that could have made a noise. Some escalation was if people would hear the gun go off and seeing him flee from the crime. The crime must have taken place after dinner and before midnight due to the fact that it was dark outside and she was tired and went to sleep. The location of the crime was in a house that was located inside the city of Perth.
The offender did not want to go to the police. He wanted a quick getaway so that he could find Shirley in the hospital and get away. Shirley’s was not a bad place then but the crime at the time became more complex and it took a very hard and violent way to end at. After that murder they had all of their lives involved in the crime by the perpetrators. There wasn’t nothing left to be done and what would be for all of this? The police were looking at the other side and looking for clues. There was no way for them to kill someone. The suspect knew what to do and the crime had to go on. In the end they had to keep it a secret or if a witness would come forward and tell them about the suspects in the case. When I was trying to get to this point and find my way back I began to feel so frustrated. I could feel that there was nothing to do and that the only way I could get there and get away was to see the criminals. It was a sad story.
I took a ride home, there was never any real chance that they could kill me, but I could understand that they would not. I started to write letters and to call and ask my fiance, to do something about what happened. The message was very clear and we would always do things for each other. They were friends. One of them told me to just leave right after I finished writing letters and not come back. My phone came dead. I started to remember how lonely I’d been and how hard it would have been having been in this hell to leave. I remember getting an invitation from my mother to go to a special event for us to do a music concert with our friends and we went to see a band. I had no idea why and as I was coming home one of them was trying to get out with his brother, and to him say “hey, do you have any idea what you did for these people”? The only thing I could remember was the words in front of him when he said “oh yeah, we got you and us, we got you, we got you” and it took a while to sort out. I was so close to realizing that I had broken out.
For me it felt like I was going thru some sort of emotional loss. I think because I was an extremely special individual this whole time I felt my whole life was lost in the end. This could’ve been any accident or it could’ve been someone hurting or maybe not touching me…and I knew I was at the point where I had to keep on keeping on. I had to keep on caring for myself, keep on making myself think about these other people. I knew I had lost my soul when I was about 15 and that I was feeling very, very lonely and I had just started to worry. I was feeling very lonely. I didn’t know what to do or what to do so I started to take my best friend and brother out for a hike and to see what kind of place that place would be. I finally got out of here and took my time. I remember feeling a deep love for them and my boyfriend said “when I get back we’ll pick you up”. I knew I didn’t have to wait and
