“Campus Confidential”
“Campus Confidential” is a movie about a high school student named Violet Jacobs, who does not understand why there must be a popular crowd. Violet and her mother move from the big city to a secluded suburban community. At her new high school, Violet feels like she does not fit in with any of the other students. She feels as if the popular kids (jocks, cheerleaders, etc.) are taking over the school, and are also given special privileges. On the other hand, the unpopular kids are being treated like outcasts even by some teachers. The social ranking of students is so messed up that the unpopular kids are not even allowed to walk on the same side of the hallway as the popular kids. Violet only makes one new friend, Cordelia, who is also an outcast. Violet and Cordelia immediately become good friends. Cordelia is in charge of the school newspaper. Like Violet, Cordelia does not understand why there must be a popular crowd. Together, they come up with “The Tattler” a school newspaper dedicated to exposing the truth about the popular kids. “The Tattler,” causes a number of crises, particularly when Principal Glavin decides to close down the school newspaper and build a health spa in its place. This does not stop Violet and Cordelia from writing “The Tattler” which exposes one of the most popular football players secret that he is really gay! It also exposes one of the most popular cheerleaders secret that she was fat before, and she did not have many friends. Both Violet and Cordelia immediately become popular. However, things start to get out of hand when Cordelia decides to write something horrible about Brandon, Violets crush, on “The Tattler.” In order to get back at Cordelia, Violet starts to blackmail her with evidence of plastic surgery that she had long ago. Cordelia gets so scared, that she promises Violet that she will end “The Tattler.” Once “The Tattler” ends the popular crowd also ends.
In my opinion, I believe that what Violet and Cordelia did was normal. Everyone wants to fit in, especially when youre in high school. No one wants to feel like an outcast. I believe that exposing the truth about popular kids is actually a good thing.
