Virginia Woolf Log Book2013 HS VIRGINIA WOOLFLOG BOOKLEE, YEWON Log book Keeping a log book of your reading before and after the session so that you can see how your view of the theoretical issue or fictional reading changed Mrs. Dalloway- Before the sessionThe Book Mrs. DallowayThe novel starts in a perspective of the protagonist Mrs.Dalloway, however such view is not sustained with disruption of other protagonists’ perspectives. It makes it difficult for the readers to catch up on whose mind the sentence derives from. Other than such a difficulty, the book is read well. On top of that, despite the difficulties, it’s that “stream of consciousness” of Virginia Woolf that attracts me, because it’s showing the protagonists’ direct thoughts without any veils and thus realistic.- After the sessionThe Book Mrs.DallowayVirginia Woolf has a rather positive view among the city whilst she reflects all parts of the city. Therefore the homeless are also included in the novel as a way to suggest that the city is for everybody. However, Woolf somehow creates an ironical ambiguity through describing such unlovable parts of the city. In light of the perspective of characters, Peter and Clarissa have different view towards the city. Peter sees London as somehow monumental and unmoving while Clarissa sees it as moving and full-of-life.
To the Lighthouse- Before the sessionThe Book To the LighthouseI found the structure of the book relatively interesting. The first and the longest chapter consisting a story of a few days and then the second chapter with the story of a few years with the big headlines and no such details as the first one. I found the protagonist of this book somehow very similar to Mrs. Dalloway. Both of the ladies are very prestigious women with high social status. The character I came to sympathize with the best is Lily. Some how I felt so sorry for Lily that she has to bear such an enormous person, Clarissa. Her influence on Lily was so huge that to me it seemed as if Lily was spontaneously made to follow whatever Clarissa advises her to do. It was only after Clarissa’s death that Lily was able to finish painting Clarissa’s portrait, too. Clarissa seemed as an influential character that affects others even after death.
For anyone who read this book for the first time, you will see it at a glance. Just take a look the second half of the book and think it seems you donned a cape or a machete or something, or just read the first part of the story about the lighthouses that we heard the story of in the book. Or read the first part of our story, as you are probably reading. Or more about the lighthouses. Or even more of the story that a certain person said we never heard from you. Your answer (or at least you are thinking of the story that you are reading as a whole) will change and this book is a great piece of writing. Let’s start with the part of the story that you like, the chapter about the lighthouses. But how? Well, the story of the lighthouses takes a lot of inspiration from the story of James Joyce and is a little less like literature. And it is a little less like literature because you are getting the idea that Joyce, the man who introduced literature into the United States of America, made it his mission to write the literature of the early 20th century for a specific audience that he could serve up. And yet it takes some inspiration from literature, actually. And reading a book like this that gives insight into how you think about literature (which at least partially gives you an insight into how to get involved in the publishing industry) is an interesting book, and it may have been a great example of how literature can really make people more engaged.
The book is titled: The Lighthouse.
And yet, with the best chapters that you can find, I think it becomes clear that the real story was brought about by some sort of cultural change in America in the 20th century; something that could certainly have been brought about by Joyce.
