Rough DraftVoting is important for citizens of the United States because individuals get to choose rights for the state. Voter ID Laws are strict and make people disenfranchised. Other people think is not enough to protect photo id’s. Voter Id Laws are racist against minorities because it requires photo id that elderly cant get. Modern Voter Id Laws are unfair and racist.Voter id laws are unfair for the elderly. According to Sari Horwitz, “ Many of the residents struggling to obtain a valid photo id are elderly and poor and were born in homes rather than hospitals.” (Horwitz). This shows that an entire segment of the population is losing their right to vote simply because they don’t have the means to obtain the correct id. Nationality should care because they wont be able to get all those votes they need in order to accomplish their goal.
Voter Id laws are racist . In the article “ Why is it so hard to vote if you’re black, poor or elderly in America”, Mirren Gidda states “ Prior to the 1965 voting rights act , many southern states made it deliberately difficult for black people to vote. Louisiana, for example, asked African Americans to take a literacy test before casting ballot.” This shows that African americans must take a literacy test in order to obtain the rights to vote. Citizens should care because other races do not have to access the inquiry. A counter argument will be to protect their identities. Hans A.Von Spakousky reports that “ Voter Id can significantly defeat and deter impersonation fraud at the polls, under fictitious names or in the names of dead voters, double voting by individuals registered in more than one state, and voting by individuals who are in the united states illegally.” This shows that citizens steal other citizens status by using their identification . In order to prevent this, people should provide a copy of their id. We the people should worry about this situation because some presidents get extra votes from unidentified or dead people.
