Lab 5 – Weather and Climate Change
Lab 5 – Demonstration 1: Modeling the Water Cycle
POST LAB QUESTIONS
Which water cycle processes are represented in this model and by what components?
Answer = The water cycle processes represented in this model is evaporation. The warmer water evaporated into vapors and was under the lid of the canning jar.

Which processes are not represented? How could the model be altered to include these processes?
Answer = The processes that are not represented are sublimation, infiltration and runoff. I dont believe this particular model could be altered to include the processes that were not represented.

How would the “weather” be affected if the water was at a decreased temperature? What about at an increased temperature?
Answer = If the weather was at a decreased temperature it could be affected because the process would slow down significantly and it would take longer to evaporate back in the air. If the weather had increased temperatures it would be affected as well because there would be more evaporation.

Experiment 1: Water Movement
POST LAB QUESTIONS
Develop a hypothesis predicting the effect of sunlight on evaporation?
Hypothesis = I believe that the heat from the sun would make the water evaporate at a fast rate.
Based on the results of your experiment, would you reject or accept the hypothesis that you produced in question 1? Explain how you determined this.
Accept/reject = I would accept my hypothesis because the heat made the vapors evaporate faster.
What parts of the water cycle are represented in this experiment?
Answer = The parts of the water cycle represented in this experiment is evaporation, precipitation and condensation.
How would increasing the proportion of land (sand) to water affect the amount of water vapor released?
Answer = I believe that increasing the proportion of land would affect the amount of water vapors released because the more the sand temperature rose the more water would be coming out and the more water came out the more it would evaporate.

How would drought conditions impact infiltration and evaporation from the ground?
