And of course, the poem before the novel is placed on purposed. The content and emotion of Prairie Spring has central the novel and it characterized the purpose of the novel. The content of the poem is the cue of the novel, it represents characters in the novel. It also represents the thought that the author Willa Cather wants to speak to us.
Through O Pioneers! Willa is trying to encourage us that hope will not sit here and wait for us. We are the one who supposed to create it and catch it. In the novel, after Johns death, Alexandra tried to take over her fathers job. She gave her brother education because she knows they will be useful one day, and she hope her brother success. She has given up her freedom of love to work and family. However, the author reminds us that it is not too late to catch your dream. Alexandra stays with her love, Carl in the end of the novel. Other than catching our dreams, Willa also reminds us about the American history, there are tons of ethnic, religious problems and scarifications before Americans reach their American dream. The death of Marie and Emil is an example, after the return of college from Mexico City, the love between Marie and Emil has lightened up again. Even though they were murdered by Maries husband, Frank, its another way to reach freedom for these two young characters in the novel. They have reach their wish, the passion of love by sacrificing their lives holding hands together.

This is the start of a poem called Prairie Spring, the poem describes whats happening on a land, sometimes dark; sometimes colorful; sometimes fresh; sometimes death. This poem sure is important to the novel O pioneer!, because it had placed before the novel starts. Every reader of this book will read this poem before the novel. Why? Why is this poem here? Why does the author wants everyone to read this before read her story, her novel? The beginning of the novel is very peaceful, it tells us how special the land is for spring, it is rich but silent, it is somber and also heavy and harsh. However, after the sun has faded, a fresh; new day arrives. It is so sharp; its the passion of youth, and the meaning of a fresh start. Comparing to the novel, the beginning of the novel reminds us about Alexandras father, who is going to suffer the slowness of passing away, death is torturing him. Although he is very experienced with the work of his land and finally earns something for his family, he dies at last, just like the fading of the sun. His life is harsh and
