Obesity Case
Obesity is a huge problem not only in Chicago but in the U.S. Most people would think that it’s not a big deal but the truth is it is. Obesity can cause many fatal diseases that can lead to death. Being obese is no different than being addicted to food. Over one-third of the U.S. is obese; imagine how much fat is being stored. Places like McDonalds or Burger king is a big part of what caused obesity in the U.S. Sure, obesity might not be a big deal to some people, since not everybody die because of it, but some do, in serious cases, like from a heart attack or stroke. Obesity can cost a lot of money, make you have a risk of getting a disease, cause complications during pregnancy, and cause difficulties for the person like depression.
Being overweight or obese during pregnancy can cause complications. According to Mayo Foundation for Medical Education and Research, “Being obese can harm your fertility by inhibiting normal ovulation. Obesity can also affect the outcome of in vitro fertilization (IVF). As a womans BMI increases, so does the risk of unsuccessful IVF.” Unlike healthy, normal weight women, you will surely end up getting certain medical problems such as infertility, miscarriage, still birth, high-blood pressure, preeclampsia, and gestational diabetes. Let’s say the mother passes and completed the 37 weeks, she will still have to face labor and birth. She may end up getting an over-size baby called a large-for-gestational-age or needing a c-section which is not healthy for the mother or for the child. 50,000 overweight women each year in the U.S. have weight loss surgery and those women are less likely to have fertility problems and pregnancy complications. Also, their babies are less likely to be born too early or with birth defects.
