“All of a sudden there were people screaming. I saw people jumping out of the building. Their arms were flailing. I stopped taking pictures and started crying.” This is a quote from Michael Walters, a journalist in Manhattan that witnessed the devastating scene at the World Trade Center in New York City. On September 11, 2001, nineteen terrorists boarded four commercial passenger jet airliners and managed to hijack all four planes, each plane destined to meet an undeserving fate. The events leading up to 9/11 are particularly tricky and controversial, since it is still being debated among citizens and world leaders. The Taliban which is supported by the al-Qaeda network, is a specialized group of extreme terrorists who are believed to be ran by Usama bin Laden. Bin Laden, one of the prime factors behind the 9/11 attacks, had been accused as the brains of the whole operation. There were some key events that had been going on between the United States and the Taliban which may have been the spark to ignite this furious tension. A series of bombings between the U.S. and Taliban took place throughout the 90s with each side bombing several cities and many structures of moral value. It turns out; this wasnt the first time the World Trade Center had been under attack by extreme terrorists. On Feb 26, 1993, a bomb was set to explode in the garage under the WTC which resulted in six dead and a 1,000 injured. Soon after, many planned bombings from both sides finally led to the United Nations imposing new economic sanctions against Taliban for refusing to turn over Bin Laden for trial on January 15, 2001. The terrorists motives behind 9/11 is a debatable topic that is fully not clear since many people lead their own conclusions on the issue. On October 29, 2004 that Arab television network aired an 18-minute video of bin Laden finally confessing to be responsible of the attacks and explaining his motives on why he did it. He began blaming that President Bush of misleading the public to make the Taliban seem even worse and that he made the people believe the Taliban was the enemy in which the whole world should frown upon.
