The concept of a person owning words is ludicrous almost limiting a persons ability to speak or write without feeling that he had to gain a ârightâ to do so. However, as our world turns, new concepts come into play just like Thomas Pink LTD winning the legal battle of using the word pink as a trademark over Victorias secret (Burns, 2014). The origins of knowledge is opinionated, some believe that knowledge started from mere observation while others say it was god given and orientated. Opinions may change based on ones background and influences on origins and whoâs is what.
My culture (Angola) hold strong moral values which influence what words
and expression one may use to another. It is more a matter of status within the
society. May I include the fact that Angola has been widely influenced by
religion which also promotes ethics and moralities which contributes to the
culture. Therefor the way a young would speak to an adult would be
different to how he speaks to his colleagues, an elder may not consider the
opinion of the younger due to their age and classify their words as
invaluable, a person in power, a Dr or rich person may instantly win the
attention of thousands and be classified as worthy to take information from
simply due to their social status irrespective of their academic background
and knowledge authenticity.
I write poetry from time to time, originality of words is highly essential to
make it specific to what message one wants to give. Consequently, I have a
nature to associate words and thoughts with freedom. Moreover, it leads me
to have the opinion of referencing limits people on their thoughts and
words and plagiarism makes you write other peoples thoughts in your own
words. However, It is very essential to have credibility. Working within the business field, as a marketing officer, it is very essential
to have and build credibility. when iâm given a task to write or convince a
potential client on the companyâs prestige and reliability; referencing and
citing without plagiarism even more prestige companies is extremely
important. It increases your credibility and assurance to the potential client which may result in being your client.
