Intriguing Writings of Frank Peretti
Intriguing Writings of Frank Peretti
Many people who donāt normally enjoy reading read books written by Frank Peretti. They canāt find a book that interests them long enough to finish the book. When he was younger, Peretti was always telling stories to neighborhood children. He has a successful writing career. He is best known for his style of writing-like Stephen King-except with more of a Christian moral and a purpose behind them. He is the first one to write Christian Fiction and many people including Marcia Nelson have considered Peretti as the Father of Christian Fiction.
I never considered myself a reader until I read a book by Peretti. Itās hard for me to get interested in reading a book. Reading is something that I have to push myself to do, not something that Iād do automatically. Non-fiction puts me to sleep, but give me a exciting novel to read, and I canāt put it down. Peretti books fall into the category of books I canāt put down.
In an interview with Focus on Fiction,Peretti informed us:
āI was made to be a writer, and I was always a storyteller and a writer from the time I was a kid. I would draw comics up in my room, I wrote stories on my momās power portable typewriter. I would tell stories to the neighborhood kids under the back porch. So that was in formation when I was real small and all the way through my childhood. It took a long time for me to really realize thatās what I was supposed to do. I knew there could be a career in writing, at least I thought there was. I mean Arthur Conan Doyle did it, and Mark Twain did it. Those were my some of my favorite authors back then.
I remember thinking, āI would sure love to be another Walt Disneyā. We loved watching the old Disneyland shows on TV. Davy Crockett, and all those wonderful stories, the Sorcererās Apprentice, with Mickey Mouse, Treasure Island. It was just so cool. And I was just caught up in the magic of all that. I still am. Because it just really resonated with me. I knew thatās what I wanted to do. There were distractions that came along as I lived life. I tried being a musician, and a carpenter, worked in a print shop, and I tried being in the ministry for a while.ā
So far, his career is successful. His most famous and popular novels are This Present Darkness (1986), which remained in the Christian Bookseller Associationās top ten best-sellers list for over 150 consecutive weeks (Rotten Tomatoes, 2). The Visitation (1999), was number one on the Christian Bookseller Associationās fiction best-seller list for four months (Rotten Tomatoes, 2). The Oath, awarded 1996 Gold Medallion Award for Best Fiction and had sold more than one million copies within the first six months of release (Rotten Tomatoes, 2). He has written a total of 23 books.
He has a writing style of his own (Buseck,1). He keeps the story moving, with no “speed bumps.” He writes in a cinematic, and in a visual way so that the reader can watch a movie “in their head”. He tries to structure the stories like a screenplay (Buseck,1). Thats what he did in Monster. He didnt have a lot of back-story on the characters, the readers just had to find out about the characters by what they did and how they acted.
Many people enjoy the way Peretti portrays the Lord in his books; here are a few quotes from people who read his books:
I guess Iām just a basically nice guy. I love the Lord Jesus. I love my dear wife Barbara. Iām basically good humored, and I try to spread as much kindness around as I can, because we can always use some more of that. I like humor. I like to laugh, and I enjoy people who are funny. (Frank Peretti)
āFrank Peretti is a master storyteller. His novels stay with you a lifetime, drawing you closer to God and the truth in His word.ā (Karen Kingsbury, New York Times bestselling author)
“Frank Peretti kicked open the doors that all of us Christian novelists are passing through today. We owe him a huge debt.” (Jerry B. Jenkins, author, The Left Behind Series)
“Frank Peretti may just be the master storyteller of our timeāusing modern metaphors and fresh images, this remarkable writer helps us visualize the unseen world in ways we never quite pictured before.” (Joni Eareckson Tada)
