Children held responsible for Murder
In a bizarre incidence in an Elementary school in Michigan a young girl lost her life today. A six year old boy brought a gun to school from his home. The police have learned that the students had a scuffle on the playground with the girl the day before. We have been told that the boy threw the gun down and ran out of the room. The school authorities found the boy hiding in a corner and placed him in their office, where he calmly drew pictures. Police say that he told them the shooting was an accident, and he had only been trying to scare her. “If the actions in the home could have been changed from having guns in the home as well as his father and grandfather in prison for gun-related changes the behavior of this child could have been a lot different (primary prevention). The events that murdered this young girl could have been prevented” (Berger, 225). The nurture of the child in the home seems to be less than secure. With the mother and uncle doing drugs we do not even know if the child is even getting any love and attention from his mother. “This falls into neglectful/uninvolved parenting, where the parents are indifferent toward their children and unaware of what is going on in their childs lives” (Berger, 274). “In this situation we see guided participation what the child has learned at home by watching his mother and uncle” (Berger, 241). “Parenting styles that have love and encouraging with the closeness will produce a loving child. Then the other side of this is the parent who just wants things for their self, and nothing for the child” (Berger, 291). “At the age this six year old is as Piaget tells us that this age does not use logical operations or reasoning. He see all this at home he does not see it as being wrong” (Berger, 237). When a child see acts of aggression at home every day, day in and day out how does he supposed to act. Vykgotsky tells us “young children are affected by the wishes and emotions of others. He also tells us that children are curious, and they ask questions to someone they respect or mentor” (Berger, 240). If they have no one at home to answer these questions they either find someone or just go by what they believe is right. The Police found a loaded gun in the bedroom and accused the boys uncle of waving the loaded pistol in front of the boy days before the incident. This six year old boy must have had reactive aggression. “His impulsive retaliation for a hurt on the playground that was physical” (Berger, 280). On the playground he felt hurt and alone. He could have also felt panic. “Dr. James brush: tells us when a child is six they depend on their parents for teaching them right from wrong in their behavior. In the United States children under seven are not held accountable for crimes” (Tortora, 2000). We have to judge if this six year
