Legalization of Marijuana
The Legalization of marijuana would benefit the United States. Weed is illegal in most states ,but does that mean it is a bad substance. Studies have shown many health benefits of weed. The overpopulation of prisons would also be a declining issues because weed would no longer be a crime. Marijuana is also proven to be non deadly compared to tobacco and alcohol that causes thousands of deaths per year. Among the other benefits the legalization of weed would offer ,the government would largely benefit from sales taxes.
Marijuana is widely known in the medical community to benefit cancer patients. It can be used to relieve some of the nausea ,and also help chemo patients gain back their appetite. Doctors who do research on weed have been able to make number of medicines to fight numbers of different illnesses. Sativex is a drug which is made from the compounds THC and CBD which in are in marijuana. This is a vaporized drug that helps prevent uncontrolled muscle spasms. This drug is available in twenty-five countries not including the United States. Â The legalization of weed would make it easier to experiment and test new drugs to help with various illnesses.
Year after year people are put in prison for marijuana related crimes. People will argue that legalizing weed will only bring more crime problems due to more intoxicated people, also crimes including theft. Since the legalization of weed in Colorado the state’s over crime rate has drastically dropped in all areas. The United States constantly has problems with overpopulated jails. Colorado proves that not only weed related crimes would drop, but all crime would drop. Many people for the legalization of weed say that people on a weed high are more peaceful and that may contribute to the reduced crime. The thing certain in this matter is that legal weed helps the crime rate.
There has not been one single marijuana related death in history ,while alcohol and tobacco claim the lives of over one hundred thousand combined. All though anti pot groups argue over the long term effects, marijuana has no proven harmful effects to the body.
