Academically, the first two years of my high school career were a disaster for me. Middle school was a breeze and I was able to get all As and Bs all the time. I walked into high school believing that it would be the same experience, but I was beyond wrong. When I didnt get the same grades that I had been getting in previous years, I began to think that I was not “smart” and I started to shut down, giving up on my grades in the process. Ive put the word smart under quotation marks because I have also learned that everyone is smart in their own way and grades dont always show that. I also learned that in high school and even at any other higher institution of learning, teachers will not hold your hand; you have to have a great amount of self-motivation in order to get things accomplished. (The older Ive become, the more true this statement has become.) I am smart, but I was lazy and I didnt have any self-motivation whatsoever, which is why my grades were the way they were. After realizing these things, along with realizing that I was on my way to being a junior (which was extremely close to senior), I needed to step my game up. I was more concerned about my school work than ever before and it began to show in my grades. I even started doing extra curricular activities as well because it motivated me to keep my grades up. Yes, the first two years of my high school career were a disaster, but I was able to turn it around for the better; I have matured and learned things that I will never forget, things that I am now able to share with other students who are younger than me and in the same situation that I was in.
