Friendship
The definition of friend is one attached to another by affection or esteem. In my opinion, I agreed with Aristotle throughout his well written argument on friendship. Everyone needs friends, even if they do not like to admit it. I strongly believed that in order for friendship to have a firm foundation there has to be love and other kinds of emotions. Aristotle believed that the good is what all things aim for because the good is what makes happiness for people. So, having a good in a friendship is very important because then the relationship is stronger. Having a difference in age could result in a problem with the friendship. Aristotle said, “That having equality does not seem to take the same form in acts of justice and in friendship.” The equality with justice and friendship comes from the different areas of respect. Some people might feel as if someone owes them something when indeed they do not. In my opinion, that is where most friendships go wrong because no one owes each other anything; but just to be treated the way the person wants to the treated.
People of all social status needs and want friendship, whether it is for pleasure or just to have someone that is close. Aristotle said, “no one would choose to live without friends.” That is very true because no one wants to be alone; they need someone to confine in or just to talk. Aristotle said that it helps people, young and elderly. It either helps negatively or positively. With young people, it deals more with peer pressure because their friends shape who they are as they grow. Dealing with the elderly, it helps them to feel less alone because majority of their friends or dead or their family abandon them.
Friendship needs a foundation of love and other emotions because without love, what else is there? If there is no love or affection, how can the friendship stand? Aristotle said that good friendship is that of goodwill because the in that friendship one is not only thinking of himself. He also said, “That young people tend to aim friendship at only pleasure; for they only tend to do what is pleasurable for them.” I agree that if young people would not change friendship so fast because of the way their emotions change, then that maybe they will find a meaningful and loveable friendship. All friendship really needs love because without love there is nothing there.
Aristotle believed that all living things aim for the good. So, in order for a friendship to be successful it must have a good. It is important for the good to be there because both people will be doing their best to show each other how to be better with whatever it is they are doing. Aristotle said that having that feeling of trust is good because one knowing that the other person would never do the other wrong. It is not easy to trust someone, so knowing that they are aiming for the good and
